Bridge collapse disaster: Two people reportedly drowned and 20 others are lost as two ST Busses were drowned away in swollen Savitri River after a bridge built in British period broke on the Mumbai-Goa Highway close to Mahad in Raigad area in Maharashtra state.

Rescuers angled out bodies of two men from the waterway and an extreme search is on to follow those missing.

Groups of Disaster management team along with the Coast Guard and different organizations are occupied with rescue operations.

“Two ST Busses with 18 travelers and four crew individuals had disappeared in the Mahad catastrophe” Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis mentioned in a tweet.

Talking about the incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis has also mentioned that all endeavors are being made to find the two Busses and rescue any survivors. A monstrous search operation is in progress.

According to Fadnavis, The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has guaranteed of all assistance from the Central government, as reported by a news media. Public Works minister, Eknath Shinde told columnists that a basic review of all bridges in Maharashtra been requested after the tragic incident.

Laxmikant Parsekar, the Chief Minister of Goa, today announced that he has asked the Director General from Police in the State Legislative Assembly to check if there is any Goan among the 22 individuals who disappeared following the bridge collapse at Mahad in Konkan area.

Two ST Busses with 18 travelers, two drivers and two conductors went missing in the Mahad bridge collapse disaster. The activity on the Mumbai-Goa highway was halted after the age-old bridge in over Savitri River near Mahad collapsed. Almost twelve vehicles, including two ST Busses going over the bridge near Mahad, are dreaded to have taken off with the water flow.

There are no whereabouts reported of the 22 individuals missing from the two ST Busses. The ST busses incorporate one going between Jaigad and Mumbai and another between Rajapur and Borivali. Fadnavis has requested quick operations and said in a tweet that the Collector has affirmed that one-way restricted movement is currently continued on the new bridge which is parallel to the old one.
