The first launch of the shuttle for the satellite into a polar orbit O (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, PSLV) was held September 20, 1993. It was developed by ISRO to launch into low Earth, polar, sun-synchronous orbit of the Indian spacecraft, as well as for commercial launches of foreign satellites. Similar commercial services provided only to Russia before the PSLV.

With PSLV they also launched small satellites into geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO). October 22, 2008 launch vehicle PSLV-XL was used to launch Chandrayaan-1, India’s first lunar probe, and November 5, 2013 – to launch India’s first interplanetary probe Mars Orbiter Mission (Mars Orbiter Mission) to Mars. Also PSLV-XL is used to launch satellites of the Indian Regional Navigation (IRNSS) system.
